In business and engineering, new product development (NPD) is the term used to describe the complete process of bringing
a new product to market. A product is a set of benefits
offered for exchange and can be tangible (that is, something physical you can touch) or intangible (like
a service, experience, or belief). There are two parallel paths involved in the NPD process: one involves the idea generation, product
design and detail engineering; the other involves market research and marketing analysis.
Companies typically see new product development as the first
stage in generating and commercializing new products within the overall strategic process of product life cycle management used to
maintain or grow their market share.
Lots of ideas are being generated about the new product.
Out of these ideas many ideas are being implemented.
The ideas use to generate in many forms and their generating places are also various.
Many reasons are responsible for generation of an idea.
Idea Generation or Brainstorming of new product, service, or store concepts - idea generation techniques can begin when you have done your OPPORTUNITY ANALYSIS to support your ideas in the Idea Screening Phase (shown in the next development step).
The object is to eliminate unsound concepts prior to devoting resources to them.
Will the customer in the target market benefit from
the product? What is the size and growth forecasts of the market segment/target market?
What is the current or expected competitive pressure for the product
idea? What are the industry sales and market trends the product idea is based
on? Is it technically feasible to manufacture the product?
Will the product be profitable when manufactured and delivered to the customer at the target price?
Who is the target market and who is the decision maker in the purchasing process?
What product features must the product incorporate?
What benefits will the product provide? How will consumers react to the product?
How will the product be produced most cost effectively?
What will it cost to produce it?
Testing the Concept by asking a sample of prospective customers what they think of the idea.
Usually via Choice Modelling. These steps may be iterated as
needed. Some steps may be eliminated. To reduce the time
that the NPD process takes, many companies are completing
several steps at the same time (referred to as concurrent engineering or time to market).

Traditional marketing has been challenged by the digital marketing in today's world of smart phones and laptops.
People are available more online than on television sets or outside hanging out with friends.
The culture has become such that people like to shop online, talk
online, and eat online. In a nutshell, internet of things has made everything mobile driven. With
internet connectivity reaching out to every household,
people are becoming tech friendly and hence spends most of their time
booking things online and saving the rest for the things they love.
Putting up hoarding on the main road and playing the ads during the prime time are not going to help that much in today's world than playing ads on social media sites and
YouTube or on applications.
The application of digital media marketing is making the companies surge with demand and supplies of products to the customers
at a greater speed. Therefore, applying the smart techniques with the help of various tools of digital marketing would benefit the
companies to take advantage of the increasing demand in the customer segment and earn profit.
Everything is becoming digitized and would be fully automated in the days to come.
If people are using things that are connected to the internet, then advertisement agencies and digital marketers should also come up
with ways where there is maximum possibility of traffic coming.
With everything becoming digital, the application of search engine optimization, social
media marketing, AdWords is going to help the marketers to bag new opportunities and lure customers to purchasing
their product. With more and more network tower coming up
and new satellites being set up in the universe for the purpose of making
communication effective, time is going to come when the network would be stronger than ever
before. This is going to make things easy, quick and transparent.
Network availability and access is going to prove it instrumental in making digital marketing the only way
to reach customers. The coming years are going to see
the customers getting prosperous than ever before.
With more purchasing power, people would want to purchase
more of products and services.
This is going to facilitate things in the companies by
making them available online to the customers and working with great speed to get the product
delivered to them without any hassle. This is going to be another important tool
that would lure customers and the fight would be about this aspect within the competitors.
Things are changing fast in the world. MNC's are becoming aware of the future trends and analysis is done to see whether traditional marketing is necessary to be
carried out or not. Traditional marketing would continue to serve the foundation of digital marketing,
but the evolving nature of the marketing field as
a whole is never going to stop. This is so because marketing keeps the customer needs at the center.
The more dynamic the customer, the more complex would be the marketing.
The virtue theory focuses on four main characteristics.
These characteristics must be met for a business to be
considered ethical. The four main characteristics of virtue are courage, honesty, temperance/self control and justice/fairness.
Courage in this case represents the risk taking and
willingness to distribute the vaccine, even after what happened
to the people that took it. The vaccine was made very fast so that it can be distributed immediately, not giving enough time to put the proper thought and care
into it. The second characteristic is honesty which is a
agreement to be truthful to the employees and to the
customers buying the product.
Sanofi Pasteur was not honest when it came to distributing the vaccine making sure it was for safe use for everyone determining whether it may be for people who have been and haven’t been exposed to the disease prior.
The next virtue is temperance which means the company has to be realistic when it
comes to their expectations and desires. The expectations of Sanofi Pasteur was that the vaccine was going to be the cure for the Dengue Fever.
Instead this was not the case leaving people with negative side effects and even death.
They consisted on maximizing profit when people were in danger.
The expectations were too risky and there was not enough thought
and care that was put into it. The last characteristic is
justice which is to work hard and to make quality products.
This is something that Sanofi Pasteur did not do considering that the products were not safe
and caused harm to people who took the vaccine.
Sanofi Pasteur would be considered unethical according to the
four characteristics.
If you do have access to a truck, you can scour your city far and wide, mowing
lawns from one tip of town to the other.
If you don't have access to a truck, you are going to need to
serve your local neighborhoods-places close enough for
you to push your lawnmower. Back when I was a kid, I used to rake leaves for extra money.
I had what I considered the perfect strategy at the time.
I would look for the house on the street with the most
leaves on their lawn, and then I would offer to rake those leaves for a few dollars.
Basically, the idea was that there was obviously a need for my services, and I didn't want anyone to turn me down because of the price.
I was 12, and I figured some money was better than no money.
My strategy was good, but I should have asked for
more money. But that was before the Internet (I know, I'm old), and no one was
writing articles about tips on a lawn mowing business for teens.
If you go door to door to try and drum up business, target the
lawns that look unkempt. People who already have a lawn service
might be willing to switch to you if you offered them a better price, but they may
already be happy with their gardener. If you target the people who obviously need your services, you
are more likely to pick up some business, especially if you catch a guy like
me who wants to spend his Saturday playing video games, not mowing the lawn.
If you have access to a truck, consider marketing on Facebook -
social media marketing is easy and, best of all, free.
You can even ask your parents to make a post to their wall about your lawn services.
Chances are, your parents' friends will be more than willing to help.
It's free advertising, and you can make all of the arrangements
from the comfort of your home or cell phone. Ultimately, it
comes down to this: People aren't going to want to pay a teenager the same price as a professional
lawn care service. Nonetheless, you don't have to give your services away for free.
15 per week for a basic mow and edging job. 20. You want to be proving additional value to
your customers to offset any perception they might have that
you lack experience.
15 for what would be about an hour's worth of work. If I had to offer only two tips on setting up a
lawn mowing business for teens, I would say above all be professional and do good work.
Why not make an invoice to provide to your customer for their records?
These small, deliberate steps to make your lawn mowing business more professional,
will encourage your customers to stick with you. Sure, they may have hired you the first time because they knew
your mom, but if you blow them away with a high level
of professionalism and excellent work, they will rehire on your own merits.
In order for products to
be made and sold to the people, it must undergo 3
different production processes. Primary sector: The natural resources extraction sector.
Secondary sector: The manufacturing sector. Tertiary sector: The service sector.
Industrialisation: a country is moving from the primary sector to
the secondary sector. De-industrialisation: a country is moving from the
secondary sector to the tertiary sector.
In both cases, these processes both earn the country more revenue.
All businesses are owned by the private sector.
All businesses are owned by the public sector. Total government intervention. Fixed wages for everyone.
Private property is not allowed.
Businesses belong to both the private and public sector.
Government controls part of the economy. Privatisation involves the government selling
national businesses to the private sector to increase output and efficiency.
Businesses vary in size, and there are some ways to measure them.
Banks - can they get a loan back from a business.
Number of employees. Does not work on capital intensive firms that use machinery.
Value of output. Does not take into account people employed.
Does not take into account sales revenue. Value
of sales. Does not take into account people employed. Capital
employed. Does not work on labour intensive firms.
High capital but low output means low effiency. You cannot measure a
businesses size by its profit, because profit depends
on too many factors not just the size of the firm.
All owners want their businesses to expand. Internal Growth: Organic growth.
Growth paid for by owners capital or retained profits. External Growth: Growth by taking over or merging with another business.
Horizontal Merger: merging with a business in the same business sector.
There are some reasons why some businesses stay small.
Type of industry the business is in: Industries offering personal service or specialized products.
They cannot grow bigger because they will lose the personal service demanded by customers.
Market size: If the size of the market a business is selling to is
too small, the business cannot expand. Owners objectives: Owners might want to keep a personal touch with
staff and customers. They do not want the increased stress and
worry of running a bigger business. Thats the end of chapter two!
Chapter 3 coming soon!
The sluggish economy continues to present challenges. While it has improved somewhat from its 1Q09 doldrums, the weak, recessionary US economy
has taken its toll on marketing budgets, marketing programs, the media (most of whom depend upon advertising revenues) and marketing
firms. In tough times like these, a marketing professional has to ensure that every marketing dollar counts.
There is little or no room for guesswork or errors.
Now is not the time for guesswork, marketing from the gut or reactionary decision-making.
Now is the time for every marketing organization to
have a marketing plan.
At Maple, we are continually surprised by the high percentage of companies that
have no such plan.
They have a large and capable sales force, but they have failed
to equip and empower their team of sales pros with a high-impact marketing program.
Don't guess or rely on a hunches, especially when dollars
are tight. 8- a marketing plan is a reason (and a
process) for focusing your team (think broadly and add "outsiders" to the project team) on growing your business and communicating more effectively with your customers.
And how can that ever be a bad thing? 10-a marketing plan enables causes you to consider (i.e., to evaluate)
all channels, tactics and media. Many clients express to us that they feel stuck in a rut with the same
old advertising, which often involves tired tactics. I guarantee
if you take the time to formulate a marketing plan, you
will inject a strong does of creativity into your promotional program!
Do you have a marketing plan? If not, contact Maple. Just post
a comment here. We'll be glad to help you. Over the past several months we've begun working on about a half-dozen marketing
plans for clients ranging from healthcare to professional services to educational
institutions. We would be delighted to work with you on yours! |
