Your personal background.
Snapchat has wormed its way into
our daily lives and is slowly becoming a vital way to communicate, and some would
argue the only way. Perhaps the most fun thing about the app,
and most used, are the Snapchat filters. Don’t worry, this post is going to show you
exactly how to use them, so you can wave sayonara to your fuddy duddy Snapchat ways and embrace a whole new you.
A you that barfs rainbows, makes you sound like a bee, or look like your
furry pet. Snapchat filters are a great way for you to embrace your inner quirkiness.
Update the app. Ok now this may sound on par with an IT guy asking ‘have you tried turning it off and
on again?

’ but I promise you, you’d be surprised at how easy it is
to miss. Just go to your app store, find Snapchat, click update and
voila! Get selfie ready. The lens only applies to your front facing camera so get ready to see a lot of face.
Whether you’re feeling your look or sending this out for public consumption, you’ll want
to be fresh and red carpet ready. Stick on a bit of slap,
brush your moustache, throw some flowers in your hair,
whatever you feel like. Hold your phone vertically. Stare into the camera like you’d stare into the window of a
cake shop.

A small circle should appear once the app
has located your face. Press the button. And hold it down. The app will map out your face and
a bunch of filters will appear just above your camera button. So make like you’re on Tinder and swipe right.
This will show what the lenses will actually look like on you.

Then when you’re satisfied, hit the camera button and send it out!
You can use the lenses in conjunction with the usual text
and emojis. It’s the perfect recipe to rock your Snapchat game.

These illustrated overlays are simple and easy to use and can only be accessed depending on your location, hence the ‘geo’.

All you do is snap your pics and swipe right. And for you
fancy snappers, if you keep your thumb held on the picture and swipe
again, you can double up your geofilters!
Location. Based on where you are, you can overlay art related
to whatever country, city or landmark you’re in. The snap below was taken in our office on the East Wall Road.
Time. Let your friends know what time you’re snapping.
Temperature. Use this one to show the temperature from where you are.
You can tap it to change it from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
Speed. Travelling and want to show off?

Please use this when on public transport or in the passenger seat.
Don’t snap and drive. Tones. Ever wondered what you’d look
like in a silent movie? Or a Clint Eastwood blockbuster?
Use the black and white, sepia or even saturated filters to see.
Speedy Uppy, or Slow. It. Down. You can alter speeds, which can be fun when working with children or animals.
Just record your video, swipe right and it will give you the options.
Make and then submit to the big wigs of Snapchat for approval.
It’s an excellent way to celebrate your local town, a landmark close to you or even an event like a wedding.

There are two types of geofilters you can utilise.
On-Demand geofilters means you can design and create geofilters
and have your submission accepted within one business day for a hefty
fee - which isn’t communicated, so it’s probably €50,000!
This is handy if you’re a big brand with a massive budget and money is no issue.
You can also create filters of specific branding and trademarks.
We’ve mainly seen movies do these to celebrate releases,
like "Finding Dory" which was recently released.
We haven’t seen any for music festivals, or other big sporting events.
If timing isn’t an issue then you should consider this route.

You can spend time to curate an original geofilter of
your choice and submit it to Snapchat for approval.

Snapchat advises that you create a geofilter for a location where people are likely to send and share snaps such as festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury.
Businesses and office buildings are not currently eligible and it is unlikely they would be accepted.
Graphics must be original. No photographs.
Be creative and compelling. No trademarks or logos,
unless authorised by an official. No hashtags. But make sure it’s relevant to the location. Don’t cover up
too much of the screen. Files should be 1080px wides and under 300KB (for PNGs).

Snapchat filters are your friend. Have fun with them and
your audience will too. Use them in conjunction with snappy text and
emojis and you’re well on the way to Snapchat royalty.
And in Snapchat filters world, that means you get to wear a gummy bear crown. No worms, bees, or
flower petals have been harmed in the making of this post.

I wasn't much of a Snapchat user until the popular social networking app rolled out
"lenses" — live, animated special effects
that can be applied to your face when using the front camera.
But with the constantly changing array of lenses at our disposal, how
are we supposed to keep up it all? The lens feature was
part of a larger Snapchat revamp from earlier this year that also blessed
users of the app with trophies and additional replays.
So, without further ado, here is your ultimate list of Snapchat lenses past
and present to keep you up to date on social media.
I'll be updating it as new lenses roll out, as well, so
rest assured that you'll continue to be able to stay on top
of the game.

These lenses are all currently accessible in Snapchat, so go
give them a shot when you get a chance. Complete with
underwater sounds and bubbles. For when you want to channel
your inner Zeus. Featuring my bottom retainer. What is happening here?
Why is it so creepy? In this lens, hearts pulse from your eyes so aggressively that they actually shoot off your face and crack your screen! Or, in my case, crack it even further!
The lens is best viewed and used in video mode. Complete with a banner
that reads "cute," reminiscent of the MySpace era. Because sometimes there are so many tears they come out of both your eyes and
your mouth? Snapchat is definitely pushing the angry lightning lenses — but it's OK, because despite all the electricity pulsing
through my veins, my eyebrows are still pretty on fleek.

I'm not even going to try and understand what this is.
At first, I thought it was a ton of small fish with blue eyeballs.
Then, I saw the C10 and realized it must be a machine.
Alas, these lenses have all been retired in favor of their newer, shinier counterparts.
But hey, maybe they'll return one day. We can always hope!
This classic Snapchat lens
will go down in history as the most-talked-about
social media update ever. I mean, just look at it. Look at
the joy it's bringing me. If that's not innovation, I don't know
what is.

Just in case you wanted to tell someone you're
sad and then really emphasize it with Snapchat.
RIP the horror film lens which I hope never comes back.

This image of myself still haunts me. A much less
horrifying way to turn your face into an emoji, I think.
Or, y'know, just look like you are. For those times when you really wish you were Iron Man. Classy.
Featuring Claire Warner. Or, you know, SLAP! Are you pretending to be Salvador Dali?
What a lovely monacle. Awww. How sweet. Featuring Claire Warner.
I really can't figure this lens out. Is it supposed to look like an emoji?
A DIY Halloween project gone seriously awry?
Your not-so-friendly neighborhood axe murderer?
At least it does a good job of covering up my acne, I suppose.
Remember when you used to blow onto the school bus window and
write messages for people outside (or even better, your crush a few seats away)?

Well, this is the same idea, except digitized and less wet.
This lens is much cooler in video form. It's currently live on Snapchat,
so go check it out!

With Bitmoji Party, your avatar competes with up to seven friends simultaneously in a
series of mini games where you have to stay balanced
on a giant record as a DJ scratches it, or avoid getting knocked in the pool.
You also can have another 24 friends spectate and rotate in. Winners earn coins they
can use to buy dances to stunt on their competition. And with an ever-present chat bar, users can use text or voice to talk trash.
Rather than port in known IP, Snap recruited developers to build games exclusively for
its vertical, real-time multiplayer format. Snapchat’s partner games (from left): Tiny Royale, Snake Squad, C.A.T.S.

Snap’s game platform has huge potential to boost time spent
in the app and the ads views that generates because gaming is perfect for its demographic.
The big question is whether Snap’s reward-incentivized video ad views
will generate enough cash to keep developers coming to the platform.
If not, a limited line of titles could get old quick.
Snap has entirely avoided in-app purchases since shutting down its Lens Store in early 2016.
There’s understandable concern that kids could
rack up huge bills on their parents’ credit cards.

But given how Fortnite has normalized paying for no-utility cosmetic upgrades for this same demographic,
with the right controls Snapchat could do the same to make itself and its partners a lot more money.

And given you’re always playing with your friends,
not strangers, there’s an even deeper urge to buy funny costumes and dances to impress them.
Snapchat’s overarching strategy right now is to build an orbit of time-wasters surrounding chat.
What began with Stories now includes Discover publications, premium Shows, augmented reality toys and now games.
But since messaging is the top mobile behavior, Snap can use it to keep people coming back and then distract them while they’re waiting for a
reply or need a social alternative to small talk.

Speaking of, you've probably been seeing the puking
rainbow lens everywhere over the past 24 hours. I myself have been snapping it to everyone I know and putting different versions of it on my Story,
even though that's a total Snapchat faux pas.
So how do you access these lenses and use them
to their maximum ability? Here's a step-by-step tutorial to walk
you through the process. It's easy — I promise! If
you don't have automatic updates, go to your app
store, hit "updates" on the bottom right, and manually update your Snapchat
app. For now, the lenses can only be applied to your face, so you're going to be seeing a lot of yourself.
Whether you plan on sending these out to anyone or are just
saving them because you're feelin' yourself, quickly make yourself
look fly as hell.

In order to achieve my look today, I fixed my cowlicks, actually put on some clothes,
and took last night's makeup off to get the full
effect of the filters. I know — I'm living a glamorous life.
So far, this feature seems to be unusable in landscape mode,
so make sure you have your phone in portrait mode.
Look at the camera straight on so that the app can find
your face properly. A little pulsing circle will appear.

Press down on the screen with your thumb and hold it there
until several filters appear along the bottom. This
example shown above is the correct way to do it.

Though Snapchat will be able to capture your face if you try to take a portrait with
your head rotated, the lenses work best if
you're facing the camera head on. Once you've taken care of steps
one through four, Snapchat will use a cool feature to map out the important components of your face.
We love Snapchat too! If it says open your mouth, do so as wide as
you can, because that'll get you the best results.
To pick different lenses, move the little faces on the bottom of your screen left and
right. Whichever one is highlighted by the large, clear shutter button is the one that
will be applied.

To snap the pic, just tap the shutter button once.

If you you follow these instructions, this is how the crying lens will
look like. The lens called for me to raise my eyebrows, so I pushed them as far up as I could.
Those tears are obviously not supposed to be there.
Also, why do I look like a chipmunk? 7. Record
Video, Take Photos, Apply Filters, And Have Fun! The new lenses feature can be used in conjunction with Snapchat's classic drawing and text tools,
plus emoji, location filters, and color filters. You're welcome.
